Joanna Shields is a CEO at BenevolentAI, the world leader in the development and application of AI and ML to understand the underlying causes of disease and accelerate drug discovery.
Before joining BenevolentAI, Joanna served as the UK’s first Minister for Internet Safety and Security, a Special Advisor to the UK Government on the Digital Economy. During that time, she also founded WePROTECT, a global alliance to protect children from online abuse and exploitation. Joanna spent 25 years in executive leadership positions at companies such as Facebook, Google, NetApp, and others.
She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity, and the Child Dignity Alliance. She is also a Commissioner on the Oxford Commission on AI & Good Governance and sits on the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence as the UK nominated expert on an AI-enabled COVID response.
